Also the money you can save by changing your own gas cylinder rings will more that pay for the course to properly do it over requiring a gunsmith to do it for you.
Because of the nature of a lot the chances of matching 40 to 80 cases to fire a CMP match with a case of 200 case is slim. Unless you are sponcered by a case manufacturer and have a culled sampe of that lot it takes a lot of cases to match a case. Not all distances require that type of matching but I like to do it so that when someting fpgoes wrong I know it is me of something came loose. Comming loose is easy to find and fix but correcting a shooting problem may take a bit longer. The perfect matched cases will help you determine what is causing the vertical drift of your shots.
Becaue I will be in surgery next week I will not be able to post the case matching program whic will annow the cae yeald to rise significantly on cases that can easily be permently marked. I can easily mark the 338 lapua cases but the 30-06 and 308 cases are to small for my shaking hands. Why do the cases have to be permenently marked. Becasue you always want to keep the same internal ballistics' characrteristics throuout its life cycle. That means after fire forming the same headspace is maintained and the sholder knocked bact to it after annealing it before any other measurements are are taken. And when you are loading it the powder must be held to the trip point of the scale on a one-half piece of a grain of the powder you are measuring out. That is possible with the one-tenth resolution scales but technique is required. to move the scale gently
A clean inside case is also required so that the total volume of the case remains the same, This is acheavable with one of the steel rod tumblers and Cascade dishwasher detergent. There are more epensive cartridge cleaning powders and liquids around but that is all I found them to be is expensive.. A clean case , ill hold a more consistent volume that a fouled up onte. The case must be kept as close as possible to when it was engraved with an ID number. I found the engraving easy with the 338 Lapua cases but the WCC14 cases of the 762 NATO cases was beyond my skill at engraving so I just tract them with paper and watersame as it was when you performed the Internal Ballistics Measurement.with a new or really clean fire formed case. To All the shooters making long range match case selections and add to the number of cases that can be matched assssfor muzzle velocity. Some of the books can be used by gunsmiths as the text books to use in their programs to improve the general knowledge of general knowledge of the shooter shooter who may not know how to clean the firearm you sold him.

In addition to dooing everything I have a small metal cut to the approximate weigh of me favorite charges nad tinish iot to the exact chargew weight with an assortment of files and sandpaper. This eliminates the need to perform a 100 gram calibration on a scale often thinking it will make it weigh a half a tenth with any repeatablilty.. In you leace the scale on for a few day sto stabalize the electronics and then check it with your known weight you made you know at any time during your powder measuring procedure by putting it on the little metal test piece you have made if the powder is changing weight.
